Mermaids have gained popularity in the past few years and there are now hundreds of options for buying swimmable tails. Unfortunately, not all of these options are properly made. People often buy dangerous knockoff tails by accident leading to injury.
Tails are often marketed as "toys" or "swimsuits" for children but the truth is mermaid tails are sports equipment and are only meant to be used by very strong and confident swimmers.
If you have a properly made tail used by a strong swimmer with proper supervision tails are no more dangerous than swimming with legs.
